WEEKLY BRIEFS City of Arvada internal news August 14, 2023 Emerald ash borer continues to spread in Arvada. Learn how you can help protect the city’s ash trees! Emerald ash borer (EAB) is a destructive pest extremely harmful to all ash trees. EAB continues to spread throughout Arvada, and the City's forestry team continues to respond by treating ash trees on City-owned property with trunk and soil injections. However, a majority of ash trees in the city are on private property. That means we need everyone’s help to protect Arvada’s tree canopy. The first step is finding out if you have ash trees on your property. Visit the City of Arvada’s website and watch this video to learn more. Celebrate the end of summer at Arvada Days this Saturday at Clear Creek Valley Park Celebrate the end of summer with the Arvada Days festival on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Clear Creek Valley Park. Arvada Days is a free, family-friendly event featuring food trucks, magic shows, train rides, live music, a beer garden, games and inflatables, community resources, vendor booths, and more! Final Bulky Item Drop-Off Event on Saturday, August 19 If you are an Arvada resident, the FINAL Bulky Item Drop Off Event of the year is on Saturday, August 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Area Athletic Complex (NAAC), 19500 W. 64th Parkway. For more information about what is and is not acceptable, visit the City’s website. These events are included in the minimum services that Arvada customers invest in as part of the City's Waste and Recycling Program. Email your news to ---PAGE BREAK--- Organizational Service Effectiveness Work System NASCAR project update In support of the City’s strategic initiative to replace Oracle (the HR/Payroll and Finance system), the NASCAR Project Team acquired the City Council’s approval to purchase and implement Workday software with Guidehouse, our Implementation Partner.The NASCAR Project team also finalized the contract with Can/Am Teller POS system software, which will integrate with Workday. The Project Team is excited to move forward with Phase II: Software Implementation! Here are some of the next key project milestones: ● Finalize and close Phase I: RFP and vendor selection. ● NASCAR begins Phase II: Software implementation planning. On August 19 each year, the world pauses to recognize Humanitarians who have demonstrated a commitment to serve others with their time and energy. Here in Arvada, Snow Buddy Volunteer George Breit is a great community member to celebrate. Each Winter, George supports his neighbors who are physically unable to remove snow from their walkways. Safe Community Volunteers needed for Victim Outreach, Inc. Victim Outreach, Inc. (VOI) is looking for volunteer advocates for their September 5th academy! Volunteer advocates are called by police to respond on-scene overnight or on weekends. They provide emotional support during a crisis, share information and resources, and are a crucial first step to victims starting on a path of healing and recovery. Volunteer advocates will be provided with in-depth and ongoing training in dynamics of victimization and will gain direct experience in providing support to people in need. They will also gain knowledge about law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Participation will enhance community responsiveness to victims of crime. There are 11 participants in the program who will learn more about the Arvada Police Department to include topics related to patrol, DUI enforcement, school resource officers, special investigations, mental health, body worn cameras and more! Community and Economic Development Work System Request for final comments on the Olde Town Arvada Strategic Reinvestment Plan The effort to create an Olde Town Arvada Strategic Reinvestment Plan is in its final phase. The City of Arvada began an effort to craft a 20-year vision for the future of Olde Town in June 2022 and has engaged the community many times through online surveys, open houses and special events throughout the process. The draft plan incorporates feedback from the community, the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District Board and the City Council. Vibrant Community & Neighborhoods Work System New Creekside Park Playground is now open! The Parks and Urban Design team recently completed renovating the playground at Creekside Park, located north of the Ralston Creek trail at 5897 Pierce St. The new playground features a vibrant wildlife theme, complete with a giant clown fish climber, dragonfly teeter totter, turtle spinner, and much more! The renovation is part of the City’s Taking Lasting Care program that makes accessibility, maintenance and safety improvements to the City’s Parks, Trails and Open Space system each year.
