WEEKLY BRIEFS City of Arvada internal news Jan. 9, 2023 Migrant sheltering volunteers needed at the City and County of Denver The City and County of Denver activated its emergency sheltering and support for migrants in December 2022. Denver continues to manage a reception center, congregate emergency shelters, an overflow shelter, and several hotel and community partner shelters. They are in need of volunteers to help staff their emergency migrant shelters. All volunteers must pass a background check through Denver's application process to be eligible. View volunteer application instructions or register to volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering to support this effort during working hours, you need to have your supervisor approve your time off and use your personal bank of time (such as vacation time, comp time used, or floating holiday). All volunteer time to support this effort, including outside working hours, will be considered personal time. Denver is also requesting donations of the items listed below: ● New or very gently used men’s winter clothes (Small and Medium only) ● New socks, underwear/boxers, jackets, hats, gloves, and sweatpants (in demand) ● Backpacks and/or medium size duffel bags (definitely highest demand item) ● Large and XL men's belts ● Men's shoes and work boots size 7-10 ● Shower sandals A donation site has been opened at 1011 S. Review your paycheck and pay rate On January 13, 2023 you will receive your first paycheck of the New Year. Due to the many changes employees have in the new year related to pay and benefits, it is always a good idea to double check your first paycheck for accuracy. We encourage you to review your pay rate and benefit rates, such as health care, vision, dental, HSA, and/or flexible spending rates. Human Resources/Organizational Development recently hired Judson Smith to serve in the newly created position of Learning Management System Administrator. Judson brings over 20 years of online eLearning expertise. Judson founded a company in 2011 and built his own proprietary learning management system. This company became the first in the United States to have a fully integrated Learning Management/Record Management System that supported virtual live education, classroom and self-paced course content for Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement. Judson also has a vast background in Fire/EMS and serves in the U.S. Air Force Reserves Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron as a Duty Control Officer holding the rank of Major. Judson came to us from UCHealth, where he was the system program director responsible for the health systems air and ground critical care transport program. Infrastructure Shared Micromobility Program Extended into 2023 Following the direction of the City Council, the City will continue the shared micromobility pilot program that allows contractors to provide shared e-scooters, bikes and e-bikes in the City. Throughout 2023 the Public Works Department will continue studying program functionality, including impacts on traffic congestion and transportation connectivity. Community and Economic Development Work System Provide Feedback on the New Town and Northwest Arvada Sub-Area Plans The planning team is excited to announce that the sub-area draft plans for the New Town and Northwest areas of Arvada have been finalized and are ready for community review and feedback. Visit the City’s website to view the sub-area plans and provide your comments and questions to [EMAIL REDACTED] by Jan. 16. The New Town Sub-Area Plan focuses on the vision for future development just south of Olde Town. New Town is defined as the commercial areas along Wadsworth Boulevard and Bypass between the G Line tracks on the north and Interstate 70 on the south and the Marketplace shopping center along 52nd Avenue. The Northwest Sub-Area Plan focuses on the vision for future development in Northwest Arvada. Northwest is generally defined as the area east of State Highway 93 to Gladiola Street, including the Indiana Street corridor, and between the railroad tracks on the south and the City boundary on the north. Email your news to ---PAGE BREAK--- Vibrant Community & Neighborhoods Work System Recycle your Christmas tree by Jan. 16 The City’s free – and only – drop-off site this year is at Stenger Sports Complex 58th Ave. & Oak St.). Trees may be dropped off daily between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. The final day to drop off trees is Monday, Jan. 16. Mulch is available free of charge at the drop-off site while supplies last. Residents are responsible for loading and hauling mulch. Note: The Lake Arbor location is not accepting trees this year. Safe Community Arvada PD incident response January 2, 2023, Officers responded to a welfare check of two people slumped over in a vehicle. Officers suspected drug use and DUI. The vehicle was pinched (this is when two police cars pin the suspect car to keep it from leaving). The driver, Breyfogle, attempted to drive out of the pinch, causing minor damage to C56 (marked patrol vehicle). Breyfogle jumped over the passenger, McGinley, and ran out of the passenger door. He was apprehended at W 80th Ave and Ames St, where he began spitting out fentanyl. He was immediately transported to Lutheran. A search of the vehicle discovered an AR-15 rifle with over 200 rounds of ammunition (drum magazine). The gun was a “ghost gun” (no serial numbers) which Breyfogle milled himself and was 9.5 inches.
