WEEKLY BRIEFS City of Arvada internal news August 28, 2023 Final opportunity to nominate nominate an Employee of the Quarter (Q3) Celebrate the hard work of your colleagues and nominate an individual for Employee of the Quarter (Q3) by August 31 and/or nominate a City team for Team of the Year. Visit Inside Arvada to submit a nomination and tell the Employee Committee: ● Who you are nominating ● Why you are nominating them ● Which City value they embodied (Innovation, Opportunity, Passion) Each quarter, the Employee Committee will vote on the nominations received and select a winner for each of the three City values. Each winner will receive a $50 gift card of their choice and a day off. Winners will be recognized in the Weekly Briefs and during the Everyone meetings. At the end of the 4th Quarter, the Employee Committee will take all twelve winners and vote for an Employee of the Year for each value. Arvada Media Services video content will now be available on Apple TV and Roku devices Striving to reach viewers on as many media platforms as possible, Arvada Media Services is now able to bring its video content to users of Apple TV and Roku devices. Watch this new video to learn more. You can download the apps by searching for "Arvada" on your device. You will find the latest City Council meeting videos, I Am Arvada series, Let's Talk episodes and other videos that showcase our City team and community. Mailroom service changes Starting next week, there will be adjustments to mail services due to a vacancy on the 2-person mailroom team. The following changes will be in effect until further notice: ● City Hall and Annex - Outgoing mail needs to be in drop boxes by 2 p.m. each day for same-day mailing. After 2 p.m., mail may be sent out the next business day. Relevant signage will be updated. Email your news to ---PAGE BREAK--- ● Other facilities - Reduced or eliminated stop as follows: ○ Ralston Water Treatment Plant and Streets, Parks Maintenance and Indiana Shops will not have regular mail pickup and delivery. Please arrange visits to City Hall and/or the Post Office for mail services. ○ Westwoods Golf Course will have pick up and delivery once a week on Wednesday. There will no longer be Monday and Friday service. If a mailing is urgent, please consider taking mail to the Post Office directly and use a P-card or reimbursement process to pay for postage. Organizational Service Effectiveness Work System Microsoft Office Application Upgrade project status Greetings from the Microsoft Office application upgrade project team! We are excited to inform you that our IT team is upgrading the 2010 Office applications which have reached end of life. The latest versions of Microsoft Office will offer advanced security features and enhance your overall user experience. We have partnered with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in your department to perform testing with the new version of Microsoft Office. After your SME has completed your department's compatibility testing, we will work with them to schedule your upgrade. Here are a few reminders: No changes will occur in Google Workspace. Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chat, etc. will stay in place and your documents can remain in their current location. Community and Economic Development Work System Housing Team Partners with Energy Outreach Colorado to help residents with energy bills The City of Arvada Housing team partners with Energy Outreach Colorado (EOC) to provide financial assistance for Xcel Energy bills to low income Arvada residents who are at risk of having their electric and/or gas service disconnected. During Energy Outreach Colorado’s program year of October 1 through September 30, financial assistance is made available to help those behind in paying their gas and/or electric bills because of adverse one-time circumstances in their lives such as illness, loss of job or high medical bills. Since October 1, 2022, the Housing team has assisted 175 individuals and families with financial assistance for their energy bills totaling $233,970.71. The team feels fortunate to be able to partner with Energy Outreach Colorado to help the citizens of Arvada during these difficult financial times. Vibrant Community & Neighborhoods Work System VCN Director Enessa Janes inducted into the Ultimate Hall of Fame Enessa Janes, director of the City’s Vibrant Community and Neighborhoods work system, on Monday was elected to the Ultimate Hall of Fame in recognition for her outstanding career in ultimate frisbee. The Ultimate Hall of Fame described Enessa as “an athletically gifted player with an intense competitive drive that pushed her to thrive under pressure.” Known as an all-around player who impacted the game both offensively and defensively, Enessa was part of eight championship teams during her career from 2003 through 2009. Congratulations, Enessa, on a truly impressive achievement! Email your news to ---PAGE BREAK--- West Woods Maintenance Staff volunteers at U.S. Amatuer Golf Championship Golf maintenance staff members from West Woods Golf Club recently dedicated approximately 250 hours to volunteering at the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship, held August 13 to 19 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver. The tournament is considered one of the most prestigious and well-known events in golf. Led by the City’s Manager of Golf Course Operations, Joe Kunze, the group included Eric Wolf, Cole Hadzerigna, Jacob Griffith, Bernie Kubistek, Daniel Kubistek, Tony DeLisa, and William Scherer. Working alongside leading professionals in the golf course maintenance industry, the team from West Woods was consistently praised for its work, leading to increased responsibilities throughout the week-long tournament. The City staff spearheaded vital tasks such as optimizing putting surfaces by monitoring moisture, firmness and mowing quality. They also managed intricate details like divot repair, hand watering, and maintenance of the rough. The acquired confidence and tools gained from the experience will undoubtedly continue to elevate West Woods as one of the premiere courses in the region. New amenities installed at Lakecrest Park The City’s Park Maintenance team recently completed installing some new amenities at Lakecrest Park (8137 Kline St.). The City team installed two new picnic tables, two new trash cans, and two new park benches. Shoutout to Craig Koehler and his crew from Public Works for pouring all the concrete! The new amenities, combined with the playground that was renovated earlier this year, have Lakecrest Park looking great! Final Movies Around Town of the season features a free showing of Monsters, Inc. The Arvada Festivals Commission will be hosting its final Movies Around Town event of the season on Friday, Sept. 8 at Forest Springs Park (6650 Kendrick Dr.). Monsters, Inc., the winner of this year’s People’s Choice Movie Poll, will be shown on a giant inflatable screen starting at 8:30 p.m. Be sure to get there early for some live music featuring Hunter Lepi at 7:30. Download your bingo sheet or stop by the Nature Center to grab a copy. Safe Community Volunteers needed for Victim Outreach, Inc. Victim Outreach, Inc. (VOI) is looking for volunteer advocates for their September 5th academy! Volunteer advocates are called by police to respond on-scene overnight or on weekends. They provide emotional support during a crisis, share information and resources, and are a crucial first step to victims starting on a path of healing and recovery. Volunteer advocates will be provided with in-depth and ongoing training in dynamics of victimization and will gain direct experience in providing support to people in need. They will also gain knowledge about law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Participation will enhance community responsiveness to victims of crime.
