Minnesota’s Authorized Requester Law, formally know as Tangible Interest Law, refers to the legitimate reason for which people may request a certified birth record or certified death record. Those who are authorized to request a certified record are: The child, grandchild, spouse, parent, grandparent, sibling (death record only), legal custodian or guardian of the subject. The person who filed (or representative of an organization that filed) the death record with the Minnesota Department of Health or the local registrar. A person demonstrating a need to protect personal or property rights. A person presenting a court order directing issuance of a certified record.
