more city news ANAHEIM, CA - (January 7, 2013) - The Anaheim Citizens Advisory Committee on Elections and Community Involvement (CAC) invites the community to attend its next scheduled meeting on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Guest speaker Peter A. Morrison, Ph.D. will offer a presentation and overview of Anaheim demographics. Dr. Morrison is the Founding Director (retired) of the RAND Population Research Center. The CAC meeting will take place at the East Anaheim Community Center, Canyon/Oak Room, located at 8201 East Santa Ana Canyon Road, Anaheim, CA 92808. The meeting agenda and related items are posted online at www.anaheim.net/CACElections. Spanish language translation services are available at CAC meetings upon request. CAC meetings include a time for public comments, and will be recorded and available for viewing online at www.anaheim.net/CACelections and on the City of Anaheim local access channel, ACTV Channel 3. The purpose of the CAC is to promote the full participation of all residents, neighborhoods, community groups and ethnic groups relating to the City’s electoral system. The CAC, scheduled to meet on a basis at locations throughout the City, will report its findings and recommendations directly to the City Council by May 31, 2013, including recommendations on: Potential changes in the City’s election systems, including election by district; How to encourage voter registration; How to identify and engage community groups in elections and in local government decision making; Language assistance programs; and Other techniques to promote full participation in the electoral process. Any proposed changes to the City’s governance structure may be placed on the June 2014 ballot to ensure that any organizational changes are effective by the next regular general municipal election in November 2014, if so desired by the electorate of Anaheim.
