NATURAL GAS COMPRESSOR UNITS Five compressor units increase the natural gas pressure from 350 pounds to 680 pounds—used as the only fuel source for the gas turbine engines. B. WATER TREATMENT Recycled water goes through a reverse osmosis filter and is chemically treated to make ultrapure demineralized water. Water samples are analyzed daily by on-site staff in the self-contained laboratory. C. DEMINERALIZED WATER TANK This 180,000-gallon tank stores ultrapure demineralized water. D. RECYCLED WATER TANK This 350,000-gallon tank stores recycled water received from the Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment System. E. CHILLER A 2,600-ton mechanical chiller unit lowers the gas turbine inlet temperature resulting in an extra eight megawatts per unit. F. GENERATOR STEP UP TRANSFORMER Converts the generator output from 13.8kV to 69kV, to be used on the City’s electrical grid. G. TURBINE Adapted from the same type of jet engine found on a Boeing 747, the gas turbine is the heart of the power plant. The thrust produced is used to turn each of the 50-megawatt generators. H. AIR INLET Air intake to the gas turbine is filtered and conditioned, which can either be cooled to increase the efficiency of the turbine or heated to protect against freezing. I. TURBINE EXHAUST STACK At a height of 80 feet, each of the four exhaust stacks direct and dissipate the conditioned turbine’s exhaust gases after passing through the air emissions reduction system. J. AMMONIA TANK 19% liquid ammonia is transferred to the emissions control module to reduce gas turbine emissions by 90%. K. BLACK START DIESEL GENERATOR A one-megawatt diesel engine will “jump start” the power plant in the event of a power outage. L. THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE Energy-efficient technology that freezes water into ice at night, then blows air over the ice during the daytime to provide air conditioning for the Plant Operations Building. M. PLANT OPERATIONS BUILDING Houses the computers and controllers allowing the Plant operators to start and manage the power plant. The attached warehouse provides space for parts to be repaired on-site. N. PLANT CONTROL ROOM Houses relays, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and the batteries to operate the Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation. O. GIS SWITCHYARD This substation includes switchgear, which allows the power produced at the Plant to feed into the City of Anaheim’s 69kV grid. equipment details
