COUNTY OF ALPINE STATE OF CALIFORNIA NOTICE OF PUBLIC EXAMINATION PERIOD for the CANDIDATE STATEMENTS OF QUALIFICATION for the June 7, 2016 Presidential Primary Election MARCH 14, 2016 THROUGH MARCH 24, 2016 THE DEADLINE FOR FILING WRIT OF MANDATE MARCH 24, 2016 THE LAW: California Elections Code section 13313 allows a ten-day public examination period of all candidate statements submitted for the official voter’s pamphlet. A copy of the material is available for public examination in the elections official’s office. Any person may obtain a copy of the candidate’s statements from the elections official for use outside of the elections official’s office; a fee for copies may be charged. During this ten-day examination period, any voter of the jurisdiction in which the election is being held, or the elections official, himself or herself, may seek a writ of mandate or an injunction requiring any or all of the material in the voter’s pamphlet to be amended or deleted. PURPOSE: Candidates viewing their own, as well as other candidate’s statements during the ten-day public examination period, and taking action during this time, helps to reduce errors and resolve differences before sample ballots are printed and distributed.
