We fully expect that by the end of the day the last few remaining steps will have occurred giving emergency use authorization for use of the Pfizer mRNA COVID-19 vaccine for all children aged 12 years and older. Studies show that it is 100% effective in this age group. This Pfizer vaccine is produced using the same technology as the Moderna vaccine that we have been using, with no safety concerns. However, we have not had it due to the extreme cold storage requirements and numbers of doses we would have had to receive. Alpine County is now working with a neighboring county in order to supply us with adequate doses for children in this age group.
