Jardine, District 2: Ron Hames, District 3: Katherine Rakow, District 4: Terry Woodrow, District 5: David Griffith April 6, 2020 Second Positive COVID-19 Test in Alpine County The Alpine County Health Department was notified of a second positive test result last Friday. We are now aware of 4 test results, two being negative. This is the second positive result – the latest having been performed at the Alpine County Health Department Clinic, although the individual is not an Alpine County resident. Keep in mind that Alpine County residents frequently seek medical care at locations outside of the county, and likewise the Health Department Clinic sees some clients who reside outside of Alpine County. The appropriate Health Departments have conducted case and contact investigations, and all necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of infection into the community. Measures include quarantine of individuals without who were exposed to the infected person during the time they were contagious, and isolation of exposed persons who have compatible with COVID-19 infection. Although we do not believe that this situation presents any risk to the larger community, community transmission is occurring in all jurisdictions surrounding Alpine County. Models estimate that California is weeks away from the peak number of cases and deaths. It is essential to rigorously protect ourselves, our families, and our community from a surge of cases. If we become lax in our practices of social distancing, we run the risk of a surge of illness that will overwhelm our local healthcare systems.
