LOCATION: Alpine County, CA (project encompasses locations across the entire county) 7. DESCRIPTION: The project includes implementation of a Wildfire Risk Mitigation Plan (WRMP) under a Fire Prevention Grant received from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The purpose of the project is to enable the County to implement activities that address the risk of wildfire and that can reduce wildfires that could impact communities. The project considers the implementation of wildfire fuel management activities in locations across Alpine County and identifies specific vegetation management activities that would occur in three high-priority locations in Markleevillage, Manzanita, and Bear Valley. PROPOSED ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINATION: An initial study (IS) in accordance with Section 21080(c) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) has been completed. The Alpine County Community Development Department has proposed a determination that this project will not have a significant effect on the environment, and has issued a draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND). This IS/MND has also been submitted to the California State Clearinghouse for review as required by CEQA. DECISION ON THE NEGATIVE DECLARATION: The Alpine County Board of Supervisors will consider the adoption of the proposed IS/MND at the regular Board of Supervisors meeting on February 16, 2021. PUBLIC REVIEW PERIOD: Written comments on the IS/MND will be accepted by Alpine County Community Development Department during the public review period from December 9, 2020 through January 8, 2021. Comments received after January 8, 2021 but before the Board of Supervisors meeting on February 16, 2021 will still be included in information provided to the Board prior to their decision as noted above, but might not be included in the staff report for more advanced consideration in the Final IS/MND.
