Its been several years since the Library last published its Newsletter and a lot has changed since then! We have quite a few new pro- grams, services and tech- nologies available to the community today and we’re excited to share the news! One of our new services is the Zip Books program. If there is a book you’d like to check out but the Library doesn’t currently own it, it’s a simple matter of fill- ing out a request form. Our staff can then order the book, in whatever format you prefer, through Ama- zon and have it shipped directly to you. Free of charge! When you are finished with the book simply return it to the li- brary. Forms can be picked up at the Library or you can fill out our online form from our website. Another popular program is our Music Fridays! Every Friday from 2:30 till 4:30 music enthusiasts of all ages are invited to gather at the Library to play instru- ments together, sing or just listen. It’s a very low pres- sure event and all skill lev- els are welcome! Also new to the Library is our very own 3D printer! It’s a great resource that combines cutting edge technology with fun and creativity. Drop by the Library to peruse hundreds of online designs that can be created with the 3D printer. Or for the more technologi- cally advanced you can use our 3D printing software to create a design all your own. From jewelry and key- chains to vases and toys, if you can dream it we can print it! Our staff would be more than happy to help you find and finish your perfect project! So if you haven’t been to the Library in awhile stop by to check out what’s new or to just say hi! And if you’re a regular be sure to ask us about our next big idea! This Just In… The Library Newsletter is Back! Enjoy! ---PAGE BREAK--- 270 Laramie St. PO Box 187 Markleeville CA 96120 ALPINE COUNTY LIRARY Last year, the Library received a gener- ous grant through Tobacco Control Pro- gram and Prop 56 & 99 funds. Part of this money was used to create our Well- ness Bags, that contain books, DVDs, games, coloring books, etc to promote overall wellness. These were so well received that we have expanded on the idea. With recently awarded funds, we purchased items that promote healthy lifestyles and community. For example, Chromebooks at the Library For the first time ever, the 2020 Census will be conducted entirely online. In an attempt to increase participation rates the Census Bureau has partnered with the CA State Library to increase access to tech- nology, especially in underserved and remote populations. To accomplish this goal, participating libraries, including Markleeville and Bear Valley, have been generously awarded new Chromebooks. It is our hope to soon be able to host clas- ses to help familiarize people with the Chromebooks and to also bring them to Community events (such as Create the Good) in order to give people the oppor- tunity to complete the Census on site. Or if they feel more comfortable filling it out in the privacy of their own homes, the Chromebooks are also available for checked out. After the 2020 census is over the Library will retain ownership of the Chromebooks and can be used by patrons as needed. Library of Things you can now check out an artist’s easel and painting supplies, a backpack with a compass and identification books, disc golf bags and discs, and musical instru- ments such as guitars, mandolins, ukule- les and drums! Stop by or call the Li- brary for more information! Christmas at the Library During De- cember the Library is full of good cheer!
