Roof valley flashings shall be not less than No. 26 gage sheet corrosion-resistant metal installed over a minimum 36 inch wide underlayment consisting of one layer of 72 pound cap sheet running the full length of the valley. CBC 705A or CRC R337.5 2. Exterior wall, roof and attic vents shall be protected by corrosion-resistant, noncombustible wire mesh with min. 1/16 in. & max. 1/8 in. openings, or a “Listed” vent. CBC 706A or CRC R337.6 3. Vents shall not be installed in eaves or cornices. Exceptions: Either SFM approved “Listed” vents, attic spaces fully protected by automatic fire sprinkler systems or, non-combustble/ignition- resistant wall and eave surfaces that are more than 12 ft. above the ground or walking surface of a deck, patio or similar surface. CBC 706A.3 or CRC R337.6.3 4. Eaves, gable end overhangs that do not project over exterior walls and soffits shall be protected by ignition-resistant materials or noncombustible construction on the exposed underside. CBC 707A or CRC R337.7 5. Exterior walls shall be approved noncombustible or ignition-resistant material, heavy timber or log construction with wall coverings extending from the top of the foundation to the roof, and terminate at 2-inch solid blocking between rafters at all roof overhangs, or in case of enclosed eaves, terminate at the enclosure. CBC 707A.3 or CRC R337.7.3 6. The underside of elevated buildings and appendages shall be protected with approved noncombustible or ignition-resistant materials, heavy timber or be enclosed to grade as with walls noted in CBC 707A.3. CBC 707A.8 or CRC R337.7.8 7. Exterior glazing and window walls shall be insulating-glass units with a minimum of one tempered pane or glass block units or have a fire resistance rating of not less than 20 minutes. CBC 708A.2.1 or CRC R337.8.2.1 8. Exterior door assemblies shall be noncombustible or ignition-resistant material, solid core not less than 1 3/8” thick or 20 minute rated. CBC 708A.3 or CRC R337.8.3 9. Decking surfaces, stairs, risers, treads, landings, porches, balconies, etc. within 10’ of the primary structure shall be ignition-resistant, heavy timber, exterior fire-retardant-treated wood (2 x redwood decking may meet this requirement).
