Robert L. Miller, Jr., Ph.D., M. Phil., L.M.S.W. is an Associate Professor in The UA School of Social Welfare. As a funded qualitative methods health disparities researcher, his primary research portfolio interrogates the intersection of HIV prevention and spirituality in the lives of Black gay men and transgender women. A secondary interest is the internationalization of social work research. As a visiting professor, Dr. Miller has taught qualitative methods to social work doctoral students in Ethiopia, Ghana, and South Africa. Dr. Miller is the Inaugural Research Fellow for “The Desmond Tutu Center for Spirituality and The Civil Society” at the University of The Western Cape. Dr. Miller directs, “The US Africa Partnerships to Build Stronger Communities, which is an outgrowth of his course, Africa Policy in Social Work. Professor Dr. Miller’s primary teaching focus in is the MSW curriculum. In all of his courses (the foundation clinical courses, cultural diversity in social work, and spirituality in social work practice) he teaches his students the fundamental skills of social justice in the service of recognizing and dismantling white supremacy.
