Rev. Michael-Aaron Poindexter My name is Michael and it’s a pleasure to serve on the City of Albany Police Reinvention Collaborative. For the past ten years I have worked with youth and in the field of education, currently working as a Community School Coordinator for the City School District of Albany at Schuyler Achievement Academy. As a Community School Coordinator I look to enhance an integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development and community engagement with a hope that it will lead to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. I also work as a Culturally Relevant Educator for the City School District of Albany which provides me the opportunity to seek to ensure equity within our classrooms and school district. Ten years ago I saw a need for affordable summer full day childcare in our community and created the Metropolitan Church Youth Summer Camp which has since grown to over 250 campers. Due to COVID-19, this summer we graciously pivoted and provided over 110 free freshly prepared hot meals for the youth of our community every day for seven weeks in July and August. I serve on the Board of Directors for both the United Way of Greater Capital Region as well as the American Heart Association. I have earned a Bachelors degree from SUNY Albany, a Master of Divinity from United Theological Seminary of Dayton, OH, and I am currently working to finish my Masters degree in Social Work (MSW), also from SUNY Albany.
